Senator Bernie Sanders: Why We Need His Leadership in the White House Now More than Ever

In this time of economic turmoil where one’s resilience is challenged, where survival of the fittest has become the norm, we often look for a hero who will save the country if not the world. In the midst of this desperation, there is always that one person who has proven time and time again that he will be there for the working class, more importantly for the marginalized sector of our society.

Senator Bernie Sanders is a popular name not only for Gen X and Millenials, but even for Boomers who have yearned for a real change in this country. Describing himself as a “democratic socialist”, he has devoted most of his life advocating for social democracy; A government that will be of the people, by the people and for the people. He is a great proponent of Martin Luther King’s philosophy which promotes social, racial and economic justice.

The current administration is consumed by racism, fascism, xenophobia, ignorance, religious bigotry and homophobia. It is time we end the demonization of the American people by electing Bernie Sanders as our President. His stance on the fight for justice, human decency and dignity by fighting oligarchy and authoritarianism is the kind of change we so desperately need in our government. He has constantly reminded us that the success of one’s country is not measured by the number of billionaires it has, but by how the most vulnerable members of our society are cared for.

He has clearly outlined policies that will give hope to the majority of the American people and not just the 1/10 of the 1% of the population. Policies like Universal Healthcare, High Quality Affordable Childcare, $15 Minimum Wage, Making Public Colleges and Universities Tuition-Free, Cancelling All Student Debt, Ending Cash Bail, Ending Prison for Profit or Reforming Social Justice System, Legalizing Marijuana, Ending Gun Show Loopholes, Ending the Sale of Assault Weapons and Taking on the Greed of Pharmaceutical Industries and Insurance Companies and Bringing About Fundamental Reform to our Immigration System and most importantly, the Green New Deal.

Bernie Sanders is our best chance at electing someone who can see through to the heart of the day-to-day struggle experienced by every ordinary American; the millions of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck. He is the only one with the policies to fundamentally overhaul the broken and outlandishly unfair economy. His campaign is about understanding that we need to be united with common agenda that will work for families and the working class, and this can only be attained by getting involved in the political process. His famous line of encouragement is “If we stand together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.” This motto reflects how far his unprecedented Grassroots Movement has come; inspiring multiracial and multigenerational endeavor.

In a speech given by Senator Bernie Sanders in July 2019 on “How Democratic Socialism is the Only Way to Defeat Oligarchy,” Sanders said, “We are in the midst of a defining and pivotal moment for our country and the planet and with so many of crises converging upon us simultaneously, it is easy for us to become overwhelmed, depressed and to throw up our hands in resignation. His message for us today is this; “ If there is ever a moment where despair is not an option, this is that time!”
